A LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN
January 8, 2010
Dear Grantees, Investees, Colleagues and Friends of the F.B. Heron Foundation,
After 18 years of dedicated service with the F.B. Heron Foundation since its inception, Sharon King will be leaving the Foundation on February 1, 2010. As President of the Foundation, Sharon has established Heron as an internationally recognized leader in philanthropy. With her unique leadership style and exceptional skills, Sharon has always kept us true to our founding mission of helping people and communities to help themselves. During her tenure, the Foundation has been in the forefront of core support grantmaking, mission-related investing and customer service. She has been a highly valued colleague, mentor to staff and board alike, and dear friend. Sharon will be joining Atlantic Philanthropies as Director of its global Ageing Programme. We will miss her enormously as she moves on to the next chapter in her career.
Heron is fortunate to have talented and committed staff who will continue the Foundation’s grantmaking and investing activities during this transition period. We are grateful to Mary Jo Mullan for agreeing to serve as Acting President. The Board is very appreciative of its customers, the organizations that do the work everyday with families and communities and that enable Heron to fulfill its mission of helping people to help themselves.
We wish Sharon all the best in her new responsibilities and extend our deepest gratitude, affection, and appreciation for her creative stewardship over the past two decades.
Sincerely,
Buzz Schmidt
Chairman
Board of Directors
