WHAT WE FUND
To advance its mission, the F.B. Heron Foundation supports organizations that help low-income people to create and preserve wealth to help them take control of their lives and make decisions for themselves and their families.
The Foundation makes grants to and investments in entities that are engaged in one or more of the following wealth-creation strategiesincluding emerging opportunities to incorporate sustainable practices within the context of healthy environments—that benefit low- and moderate-income families and communities. The specific wealth-creation and preservation strategies are:
-
Advancing home ownership
Supporting enterprise development, and
Increasing access to capital and preserving assets
The Foundation will also support research and policy efforts that advance these wealth creation strategies.
Philanthropy can play a vital role in supporting these strategies and the social sector as a whole. The Foundation seeks to encourage effective practices in philanthropy specifically in mission-related investing, core support and practical means of assessing impact. In 2008, the Foundation reviewed and revised its funding priorities. For more information on these changes, please see the Program Review section of our web site.
