REVIEW PROCESS
In 2007-2008, with guidance from its Board, the Foundation conducted a Program
Review to ensure that our grantmaking and investment strategies capture current realities
and are forward thinking. To gather information, the Foundation undertook the
following activities:
- Sent questionnaires to Heron "customers," all current grantees and investees to solicit their input. We received 79 written responses.
- Conducted 35 in-depth interviews by telephone with a variety of individuals who are innovators and leaders in areas of work most relevant to Heron’s mission.
- Commissioned papers from three experts:
- Melvin L. Oliver, Ph.D.
Dean of the Division of Social Science,
Professor, Department of Sociology
University of California, Santa Barbara.
